O'Kane & Monssen Preps for Oral Cancer Foundation 5K Walk/Run
Saturday, October 7th, O’Kane and Monssen Family Dentistry will be participating in The Oral Cancer Foundation’s Twin Cities 5k in Eagan. By doing so, we will help to bring awareness to this growing epidemic and raise funds for the estimated 50,000 adults who will be diagnosed with oral cancer.
Oral cancer kills one American every 60 minutes.
The number of oral cancer cases has risen over each of the past seven years, while other types of cancer cases have declined.
40% of new oral cancer diagnoses are young, non-smokers.
HPV is responsible for a 15x increase in oral cancer diagnosis.
Men are two times more likely to develop general oral cancers.
HPV-related cancers are 6-7 times more common in men than women.
69% of all oral cancers are found in late stage causing thousands of deaths.
At O’Kane and Monssen, part of the routine preventative exam we provide our patients includes an oral cancer screening using Oral ID™. This life-saving fluorescent optical technology helps identify oral abnormalities allowing increased detection of oral cancer at its earliest stages. Early discovery is critical for survival.
